Sweat Lodge Ceremony - Quw’utsun Cowichan Territory - S’amunu Village In-Person
This is a full-day learning opportunity for faculty. Join a dozen colleagues in an immersive learning opportunity to prepare for and participate in a Sweat Lodge Ceremony lead by respected Elder Qwiyahwultu-hw Robert George of Quw’utsun Mustimuhw Cowichan Nation. The teachings will happen in an emergent way and participants will build a stronger connection to themselves, the land, and Coast Salish culture. Faculty are strongly advised to have some prior learning, for example, taken TELŦIN TŦE WILNEW (TTW), the KAIROS Blanket Exercise, or participated in other cultural learning opportunities.
Participants will be required to travel to Cowichan area and will be able to submit to CCFA for pre-approved travel reimbursement. Arrival at 9:30am and departure at approximately 3:00pm. As well as one Q&A zoom session with Elder Robert to prepare on November 1. Participants will bring an item for a potluck lunch and water and snacks for themselves.
Additionally, some cultural safety considerations include sensitivity to claustrophobia & allergies (accommodations are available) and folks are not permitted to participate in a Sweat during menstruation.
