The KAIROS Blanket Exercise In-Person

Have you ever wondered about Indigenous experiences on Turtle Island and the intergenerational impacts of colonization? Have you wondered how Canadian law, policy, and social bias have shaped the ways our society looks today?

Join in The KAIROS Blanket Exercise led by Tina Savea and her Indigenous team. Tina will walk us through an experiential learning opportunity as we travel through five hundred years in North America. Together we’ll encounter pre-contact, the British North America Act, the Indian Act, Script, Reserve system, Potlatch bans, Indigenous resurgence, and more. Afterward, participants will spend time listening, sharing, and debriefing in sharing circle pedagogy. Previous participants at Camosun have said, “This was an extremely valuable opportunity to learn alongside my colleagues. Thank you! The participatory nature of the event in hearing about the history of colonialism was very impactful” as well as, “This was one of the best workshops I have ever taken at Camosun. The facilitators did an amazing job running the workshop. Everyone should participate in the Blanket Exercise.”

This is a listening and learning-through-doing 3-hour workshop offered in person at Interurban. All are welcome; no previous knowledge is necessary, however, having taken TTW is recommended for greater context.  Coffee and tea will be available.
