Allies Alongside: From Reconciliation to ReconciliAction In-Person
Allies Alongside: From Reconciliation to ReconciliAction Workshop
Thursday, September 26 from 8:30am to 11am - Lansdowne Campus: (TBD)
What is my role in reconciliation? How can I implement the recommendations of the TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) in my pedagogy, programming, and classroom? Join us for an interdisciplinary conversation about cultivating active allyship in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. As educators, we have had the privilege to hear stories shared by survivors of Canada’s Indian Residential Schools and witness them sharing their truth. Now we commit to honouring survivors by taking action to transform educational spaces.
Participants in this round table workshop will share insights and strategies for approaching allyship as educators and members of the college community. They will also be invited stay for lunch and to co-facilitate further discussions during the afternoon Orange Shirt Day Ceremony if they want to.
This workshop is a collaboration between the English Department Indigenization Working Group and CETL.

Allies Alongside: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Annual Ceremony Camosun College 2024 (optional)

As workshop participants, we hope that you are also able to stay for the afternoon, where you’ll will be invited to participate in Camosun’s annual ceremony. Inspired by the words of Elders Doug and Kathy LaFortune, ceremony participants will be invited to move from being an observer to being an active ally. During the ceremony, we will hear from esteemed guests and diverse Indigenous voices from our College community. Afterward, some participants from the morning ReconciliAction Workshop will be invited to co-facilitate guided discussions on the theme of Reconciliactions, whether small or large, that allies can take towards reconciliation. All participants will then be invited to share a Reconciliaction commitment on the open-mic, to be witnessed by all at the ceremony. Together, we create a path forward towards new relationships.
